Reading Elder Honored At State House
Reading resident Sally Hoyt was recognized as an “Outstanding Older American” at a ceremony held at the Statehouse on May 19. Hoyt, who has a long record of volunteering, was recognized for her continuing advocacy efforts for issues affecting elders. “Sally is one of the most effective elder advocates in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” said Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES) Executive Director Daniel J. O’Leary, who nominated Hoyt. “She represents the best of what an advocate should be: knowledgeable about the subject matter; passionate about the cause; articulate; persistent; diplomatic; unwavering in belief; inclusive; and, most of all, effective.” Hoyt was one of 28 individuals recognized at the ceremony. Hoyt’s volunteer efforts have included being president of the Senate of Silver Legislature, serving on both MVES’s Advisory Council and its Planning and Advocacy Committee, volunteering as a Reading Selectwoman, and serving on Reading’s Council on Aging.
