October 2009

Grab a pen and mark your calendar! MVES is hosting a variety of events throughout the fall and beyond. Caregivers, elders, professionals, or local business owners may be interested in attending the following events. Please join us!

  • Participate in a five-week caregiver educational series called CARE Plus for family members caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease. MVES is hosting this Boston University group study that will offer information about Alzheimer’s disease and its symptoms, tips to reduce caregiver stress, communication techniques, and more. The sessions will be at MVES, 300 Commercial Street, #19, in Malden on Mondays, October 19 and 26, and November 2, 9, and 16, 2009 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Learn more.

  • Attend MVES’ annual Health Benefits University on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at MVES, 300 Commercial Street, #19, in Malden. Professionals are invited to attend the workshop, which will cover topics like prescription drug coverage, Medicare Advantage Plans, and assistance for low-income clients. In response to participant feedback from last year, we're offering a general session in the morning and a more advanced session in the afternoon. Attendees may choose to attend one or both sessions and may also obtain CEUs. For more information, call MVES at 781-324-7705.

  • Come talk to MVES staff on Friday, October 23, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Senior Fair at Maplewood Place, 295 Broadway, in Malden. MVES will be one of many organizations at the fair ready to answer your aging- or caregiving-related questions.

  • Get into the holiday spirit early this year! MVES’ annual holiday sale is Tuesday, November 3, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at MVES, 300 Commercial Street, #19 in Malden. Shoppers can choose from an array of low-priced cards, gift wrap, ribbon, and plenty of other holiday goodies. All items are generously donated by Copley Flair, a hip card and gift shop in Boston, and proceeds will benefit MVES’ Elder at Risk Fund. See the sale flyer.

  • Head out for a night of laughs and support local elders too! On Saturday, January 23, 2010 MVES is hosting a brand new comedy event called “A Bellyful of Laughs” to support MVES’ Meals on Wheels Program. Local comedians Dave Russo and Paul Gilligan, who will perform at Anthony’s restaurant in Malden, are sure to deliver “a bellyful of laughs!” Call MVES at 781-324-7705 for more information.

  • Don’t miss our fifth annual theatre event! On Saturday, April 10, 2010 MVES will present My Fair Lady at the Stoneham Theatre. Event proceeds will be put into MVES’ Gap Fund, a $1 million endowment being created to help older adults—people who fall in service eligibility gaps—receive the care they need. Pledge a sponsorship of $100 or higher before December 31, 2009 to receive a My Fair Lady CD! View the sponsorship flyer.

Call MVES at 781-324-7705 or contact us via our web site to learn more about these events.
